Although the FDA approved Invokana and other sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors for treating patients with type 2 diabetes, the administration warns that these drugs can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition in which the patient has excessive acid levels in the blood. Symptoms of ketoacidosis in diabetics include nausea, vomiting, respiratory problems, abdominal pain, confusion and fatigue. Lawsuits also exist linking Invokana to health problems such as:

• Kidney problems. Invokana may result in kidney injuries such as impairment or failure. Kidney stones, urinary tract infections, changes in urination, genital yeast infections, dehydration, and fluid imbalances may also occur.
• Cardiovascular risks. Invokana may adversely affect the heart, leading to cardiovascular events that could seriously injure or kill the consumer. In one clinical study, there were 13 cardiovascular events in the group taking Invokana, compared to just one such event in the group taking a placebo.
• Amputations. Perhaps the most frightening potential risk of taking Invokana is foot or leg amputation. Two clinical trials through the FDA showed that canagliflozin medications almost doubled the risk of amputations in adults with type 2 diabetes. Patients who develop pain, tenderness, sores, ulcers or infections in the legs or feet should seek medical help right away.

Johnson & Johnson, or its subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals, may be liable for your Invokana-related injuries. There are ongoing lawsuits against the drug manufacturer that allege that it withheld information from the FDA, misrepresented facts about the risks and benefits of the drug, failed to test the product to ensure its safety, and failed to warn of potential known side effects of Invokana.
