Can a New York Teacher Sue the City?

Throughout the United States of America and especially here in New York, workers comp is typically the remedy used when somebody’s injured on the job and their employer is at fault. However, in New York City a teacher at the New York City Public School can sue the city and more specifically Department of Education here and uh directly and as they remedy; so could be a slip and fall accident, could be an attack by a student with a problem history, could even be an asbestos case. Our firm has represented teachers who were exposed to asbestos at the schools and years later were diagnosed with either mesothelioma or lung cancer. But the answer is yes a teacher can sue the city of New York.
