How to Know if I am Eligible for Compensation After a Car Accident in Fort Lauderdale?
Video Transcript
In Fort Lauderdale, as is the case in the rest of the State of Florida, youโre eligible for compensation through a variety of different ways after a car accident. Florida is a no-fault jurisdiction. What that means is, if you have a very small accident like a fender bender or something like that and there arenโt any serious injuries, there is no fault thatโs going to be assessed. Whatโs going to happen is you contact your insurance company and, through your own no-fault insurance, your medical treatment and any lost wages that you might have had, will be dealt with under your own policy.
However, if youโre seriously injured in a car accident case, meaning you have some kind of serious surgery that takes place or, God forbid, you die, then youโre able to file a lawsuit against the person who hit you under very specific circumstances. That person’s insurance company will be the one that is responding to the lawsuit and thatโs how it will proceed forward. But, itโs very important to have a lawyer involved so that they can assess whether or not your case qualifies to defeat the no-fault threshold.”
